If you're already a Snapchat user, you're probably already familiar with the 'Stories' feature. This allows users to join pictures and videos taken throughout a specific time frame for others to view as one longer presentation.
But now, Instagram have brought out their own version – even featuring the same name as Snapchat's original idea!
Let's take a closer look at what Instagram Stories have to offer, and whether they can really rival the Snapchat original.
First thing's first, there's a sense of familiarity.
While we're not directly accusing Instagram of copying Snapchat stories, let's just say the two are very similar to use. Not only are both features named 'Stories', but they both also feature temporary photos and videos that disappear after 24 hours, as well as having a similar user process.
But that's not necessarily a bad thing.
While being unique can make a tool or product stand out, offering up something many users will already be familiar with is a sure fire way to make the conversion process less confusing.
If users already know how to use Stories (on either platform), they'll be more inclined to start posting on the other. Well played, Instagram.
If anything, Instagram has made a few improvements (and has other benefits to consider too).
Where there are differences between the two, it appears that Instagram have made a few tweaks her and there to improve the tool for their own brand. Here are the first things you'll notice:
Although it may be very similar to Snapchat Stories, Instagram has introduced a product that's almost certain to be successful with its users, and could also be integrated into many social media campaigns should marketers wish to take advantage of its perks.
