You’re probably already familiar with Snapchat filters and their popularity on social media, but did you know that you can create your own?
Geofilters are Snapchat filters that are only available at specific locations – such as at an event or a place of business.
You don’t need to be tech savvy to use them – all you need is to use Snapchat On Demand Geofilters! Using this simple feature, you can design fully customised filters that Snapchat users can use in their snaps when they stop by your premises.
First, choose which type you’ll use.
There are two types of Snapchat On Demand Geofilters. The first is for individual users and the other is for businesses. As you’re aiming to use the filter to represent your business, we recommend the second option.
Regular users are not permitted to include business branding or promotional content in their filters, so be sure to select an On Demand Geofilter for business. This will allow you to use your company name, local and other branding as part of your design.
The only other rules are that you cannot include photographs, links, contact details or unauthorised content.
The area for your Geofilter location must be a minimum of 20,000 square feet and a maximum of 5 million.
Whichever one you choose, it will only be available for 30 days, so choose your timing wisely, such as when you are running an event or promotion.
Now we’ve established which type you’ll be using, it’s time to get started!
To begin, head on over to snapchat.com/on-demand from your computer’s web browser. This cannot be done in-app. Then, simply click ‘Create Now’ to get started!
You’ll be prompted to log into Snapchat using your username and password, and will then be able to either download a template to work with or upload your own pre-designed image.
If you choose to download one of Snapchat’s templates, they are available as both PSD (Adobe Photoshop) and AI (Adobe Illustrator) files. You can then use Photoshop or Illustrator to work on your design.
When uploading your image, it will need to be a PNG file with dimensions of 1080 px x 1920 px. The final image must have a transparent background and be under 300kb in size.
When the image is uploaded, click ‘Next’ to move on to the next step.
Choose your Geofilter’s dates and location.
The next step is to choose when you’d like your On Demand Geofilter to be active. You’ll be presented with a simple calendar layout and it’s easy to select a time period.
Next, you’ll be able to draw your desired location on a map. Once chosen, you’ll be given an estimated cost for your Geofilter.
Confirm your order.
If you’re happy with the results and the price, you can go ahead and confirm the details of your order by providing your payment information.
Once this step is completed, you’ll receive a confirmation email and your Geofilter will be submitted for review. Once it’s approved, you’ll get another email from Snapchat letting you know it’s ready to use.
The process is easier than you may have thought, so why not give it a try?
