When you’ve got the responsibility of marketing a brand online using social media, you may find yourself falling into a rut. There’s a whole world of options in the digital world, but it’s all too easy to find yourself falling into the trap of a basic routine.
Perhaps you’re limiting yourself to a particular network, or maybe you’re focusing on just one type of content. Regardless, social media is not the place for ‘if it’s not broken don’t fix it’ attitude. If you want to keep your audience coming back for more, it’s important to try new things and develop an ongoing, creative presence.
Focus on your content – not just your product.
Just like in regular conversation, talking solely about yourself is boring and unoriginal. When your audience log on to Facebook, Twitter or other social networks, they don’t want to see advertisements on every page – they want quality, entertaining content that will give them a reason to visit new pages and see what they have to offer.
Take the ‘pen and paper’ approach.
When you’re so caught up in the digital world, it’s easy to forget the joy of using traditional pen and paper to brainstorm your ideas.
Pick up a sketchbook and make notes, draw pictures or create lists – anything that you find relevant to your strategy and its progression.
Join in with the trends.
Is there a new trending hashtag appearing in your feed? Why not think of the ways it could be applied to your business?
Sure, you may not be able to relate your product or service to every trend that comes along, but you’d be surprised at the connections you may be able to make. Give it a try!
Research your target market.
You may think you know what your audience wants to see, but how do you know for sure? The answer? Market research.
By finding out what the people in your demographic are into, you’ll be able to challenge yourself to create content based on their interests and needs.
Take inspiration from the pros.
If there are people you admire within your industry, why not take a look at the way they’re promoting themselves or their company on social media?
You may find some unique approaches that you may not have thought of yourself!
Create a new kind of content.
It’s always a great idea to try something new. For example, if you’re used to posting text and photos on a daily basis, why not get creative and surprise your audience with a video?
They don’t have to be hard to create, especially using apps such as Vine or even Instagram.
Whichever kind of content you decide to try out next, show your audience you’re always open to new ideas.
Try out a whole new social network!
It you’re currently only promoting your brand on one platform, why continue limiting your reach? Try one (or maybe even more) of the top networks and start developing a presence there.
You’ll be able to market your content towards users who may not be multi-platform, giving you more opportunities to convert them into paying customers.
Take advantage of trends, tags, groups, lists and more to further improve your reach and get in touch with countless people within your chosen demographic.
