5 Tips For Making Your Video Go Viral

Mohnish Jain | 17 FEB 2017

We’ve all heard of the term ‘viral video’ - but if you’re still unsure what it is, it’s a video posted online that has gained traction due to its appeal or interest, causing it to be shared many times all over the web and generating thousands – or even millions of views.

The only downside to the increasing amount of viral videos is that many marketers are looking for an answer to the question, ‘how do I make a viral video?’ - and the answer probably not the one they were hoping for.

Part of a video going viral is luck. It has to be in the right place at the right time and be seen by the right people. Its content also has to be exactly what those people want to see and share at the time. That’s why even though many videos have great content, they don’t get to enjoy the ‘viral’ success that others do.

Despite this, there are several ways to increase your chances of going viral when you upload your next video. Give them a shot and see how they work out for you!

1. Create content that’s positive and uplifting.

Have you ever noticed how most viral videos are the ones that make people laugh or smile? That’s because people respond well to positivity, and want to share the uplifting moment with their friends.

Stay away from the negatives and create content that brings some light and fun to your social media page.

2. Make your video unique.

Why would someone watch and share a video if it’s something they’ve already seen hundreds of times in their feed? Internet users are looking for content that’s fresh, new and exciting, so give them what they want by posting unique and creative videos that are shareable too.

3. Keep it short and sweet.

Videos that are too long are less likely to go viral, as many viewers are probably just spotting the video while scrolling through their feed. In these cases, they may be able to free up a minute or two – but any longer could cut into their schedule too much.

Keep it short and sweet to create a wider viewer base.

4. Tell a story with your video.

Videos that appear random or even pointless aren’t likely to get as many views, let alone go viral. Use your video to tell a story that engages the viewer and encourages them to keep watching – perhaps even going on to share it with their friends.

5. Post it on multiple platforms.

When your video is ready to post, make sure you upload it on all your social media profiles rather than just one in order to give it as wide an audience as possible.

So while you can’t set out purely with the goal of creating a ‘viral video’, there are certain things you can do to increase your chances.
