Just Starting Up With Your New Blog? Read These Tips

It seems the internet is saturated with blogs, and that’s no bad thing. Whether for work or a hobby, many internet users around the world use blogging to express their views, feelings and creations.

However, if you’re hoping to make it big as a blogger or use your blog to promote your business or product, you’ll need to find a way to stand out amongst the crowd. By following a few tips and ensuring your blog is at its finest, you’ll be sure to gain followers and make a statement.

  • Keep things fresh:

Every now and then, you may be tempted to switch up your blog layout. Should you? Yes! By keeping things fresh, you’ll be able to give viewers an up to date look and feel of your aesthetic, as well as making the most of any new design ideas you’ve come up with.

However, if you’re a large, corporate brand, you may prefer to stick with what you know and allow your blog design to blend in with the rest of your promotional marketing.

  • Describe yourself:

People will struggle to identify your blog if they have no idea what it is you actually do. Create an ‘about’ page that outlines your business, your interests and who you are as a person. Use this space to show off any credentials or skills that could convert prospective clients into paying ones, or general viewers into loyal followers.

  • Keep it simple:

You may find readers are put off by complicated navigation, even if they love your content. Most blogging platforms, such as Blogger or WordPress, allow you to categorize your posts with blog labels or tags.

By dividing your content, visitors will be able to view all your posts, or choose a particular topic of interest. It’ll save them the time they would have spent searching for the content they were looking for and make them more likely to refer back to your blog in the future.

  • Avoid writer's block:

As you gain followers, they’ll begin to expect posts on a regular basis. Writer's block is not an option if you’re hoping to take things to the next level, so try keeping a list of ideas in reserve.

When you think of a topic for a great blog post, write it down or save it in a document on your computer. This way, you’ll have ideas to refer back to when you just can’t decide what to write.

For an ultra-organised routine, you may even wish to set up an editorial calendar, taking note of the dates you plan on sharing each post.

  • Engage with other bloggers:

You can’t expect the blogging community to respect and admire your blog without putting in a little effort. Try commenting on other blogs to generate attention and engagement.

This will show you’re a friendly, open member of the community who isn’t afraid to join in with discussions. You never know, you may even make friends or valuable industry contacts.

  • Avoid feeling burnt out:

If your heart isn’t in it, the quality of your blog will slide. Blogging can feel stressful or overwhelming, especially if it’s your full-time job.

Make sure you find time for yourself, no matter how hectic your online life becomes. It may also help to pick up your laptop and complete a few tasks out of the house for a change of scenery.

How do you make the most of your blog? Have any of these tips worked for you in the past? We’d love to hear your thoughts on blogging and how to make your blog work for you.
